In this post, we review symptoms of the more common ENT conditions to look out for this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Middle Ear Infections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Middle <a href=\"https:\/\/foothillsentahc.com\/ent\/ear\/ear-infection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ear infections<\/a> are the result of fluid becoming trapped in the middle ear due to inflammation of the Eustachian tubes, which are the passageways between the middle ears and the back of the throat. Sometimes, bacteria can grow in this trapped fluid, causing symptoms such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Feeling of fullness in the ear<\/li><li>Ear pain<\/li><li>Drainage from the ear<\/li><li>Warmth and redness around the ear<\/li><li>Muffled hearing<\/li><li>Ringing in the ear (<a href=\"https:\/\/foothillsentahc.com\/hearing-balance\/tinnitus\/tinnitus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tinnitus<\/a>)<\/li><li>Balance issues<\/li><li>Dizziness or vertigo<\/li><li>Nausea or vomiting<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hearing Loss<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hearing loss may be conductive, caused by a physical blockage preventing sounds from traveling through; sensorineural, caused by damage to the sensory cells within the inner ear; or mixed, caused by a combination of factors. Symptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Trouble talking on the phone<\/li><li>Turning up the TV volume much louder than others prefer<\/li><li>Problems hearing high-pitch sounds<\/li><li>Frequently asking people to repeat themselves<\/li><li>Saying \u201chuh\u201d or \u201cwhat\u201d a lot<\/li><li>Feeling as though others are constantly mumbling<\/li><li>Difficulty hearing well in settings with a lot of background noise<\/li><li>Having a \u201cgood ear\u201d<\/li><li>Ringing in the ears<\/li><li>Sensitivity to certain sounds<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sinus Infections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sinus infections are the result of mucus becoming trapped in the sinuses, which are the hollow pockets in the face that produce mucus that circulates through your respiratory system. This pooled mucus can grow bacteria. Symptoms of a sinus infection include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Facial pain or pressure<\/li><li>Headache<\/li><li>Nasal congestion<\/li><li>Nasal discharge<\/li><li>Postnasal drip<\/li><li>Cough<\/li><li>Fatigue<\/li><li>Fever<\/li><li>Dental pain<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Allergies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Allergies are the result of your immune system overreacting to a normally-harmless substance called an allergen. When you\u2019re exposed to an allergen, you can experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Itchy, watery eyes<\/li><li>Congestion<\/li><li>Runny nose<\/li><li>Sneezing<\/li><li>Scratchy throat<\/li><li>Wheezing<\/li><li>Rash or hives<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Obstructive Sleep Apnea<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing during sleep. This is caused by the soft tissues in the mouth and throat collapsing into the airway.
